On the Youtube channel Muso Talk you can find tests, talks and reviews (in German) about audio recording. So, logically our audiophile headphone amplifier with Phonitor Matrix, 32-bit DA-converter and outstanding sound quality – SPL Phonitor One d – can’ t be missing there. Hans Jörg Bordin aka Non-Eric has tested the headphone amplifier for you and is thrilled:
“A good headphone amp belongs in every recording studio, and today I’m going to introduce you to the Phonitor One d from SPL. I will try to explain to you why I think this headphone amplifier is so incredibly good.”
Layout:
“There is a nice big volume control that can be dialed in very precisely, we have an input switch, and the crossfeed control.”
“Let’s take a look at the back panel. We’ve got a line output and the two line-ins, which you can select at the front on the selector switch. We connected the device via USB. So the device can be operated analog via two line inputs, or digital via USB with 32-bit resolution and sampling frequencies up to 768kHz.”
SPL Phonitor Matrix:
“But the Phonitor One d is not only a high-quality headphone amplifier, it also knows a very special trick called: SPL Phonitor Matrix.”
“The crossfeed can be switched on at the front of the device and can then be controlled continuously. I tried it out right away with my ‘low-priced’ headphones and I have to say: it really works – I get a much more spatial sound experience.”
Sound:
“The SPL features an OPA 2134 SoundPlus™ operational amplifier, which provides extremely low noise and is also extremely fast – which you can actually hear.”
“Even with low-priced headphones, it feels like you’re switching from MP3 playback to WAV playback. I can actually hear details I couldn’t hear otherwise.”
Conclusion:
“I’ve always been happy with my headphones and and my headphone amp attached to the audio interface, but since I’ve heard, tried and tested the combination of a high quality headphone amp with high quality headphones, I have to say there are worlds apart from what I’ve used before and what I was able to test here today.”
We totally recommend watching the awesome video – since this is a German video, the subtitle function might do the trick.
