„Without a doubt, this is one of the best coffees in the world…“
Today we have a very special ‘review’. Not only is good sound important at SPL, but also good coffee – developer and SPL founder Wolfgang Neumann visited a very special coffee farm during a vacation in Costa Rica about 25 years ago. He was so impressed by the way the farm worked that he decided to import the coffee.
“The background for this story is quite simple: enjoyment.”
HiFi-Stars is a HiFi magazine with a holistic approach and has often shown good taste writing about our Pro-Fi series. But this time it is about the most popular drink of our country – coffee:
“It is absolutely clear that you need a good cup of coffee when developing and it is just as clear for us HiFi gourmets to enjoy a good (!) cup of coffee when listening to music – which closes the circle to this coverage in a worldwide published HiFi magazine.”
“During a vacation in Costa Rica, Neumann visited a coffee farm in the highlands of the Talamanca Mountains, which cultivates, harvests and (!) roasts its own coffee according to strict organic principles.”
Roasting and transportation:
“…while coffee beans are usually processed at over 400° Celsius (in the form of a shock roasting of 90 seconds), on the highland farm Madre Tierra this happens at only 160° Celsius and a roasting process of 10kg takes 45 minutes! Considering both values, the ‘German roasting’ with more than 400° Celsius is more of a burning process.”
“After roasting, the beans are immediately vacuum-packed at Madre Tierra and sent by air freight to Germany for distribution. Also this is a substantial contribution for the compatibility of this so popular beverage, because if you are now among the people, who have a low tolerance digesting coffee, then with large probability the cause is to be found with the roasting process.”
Conclusion:
“At this point I almost go into raptures abot this coffee – I’m having an espresso …of the IAPAR 59 blend, 100% Arabica – a smooth sensation, which crema develops during the process. In addition, my daily breakfast favorite has now become the golden Madre Tierra made of 100 % Arabica. This is pure enjoyment right at the beginning of the day!”
“The Costa Rica coffee has brought me back! The aroma alone, when prepared in the classic way, is enough to make you look forward to a ‘good’ coffee. Yes, it costs money, but honestly – haven’t we all gotten too old for whatever half-baked stuff? Anyone who ever tries Costa Rica coffee knows what I am writing about here…”
