We are very pleased about the great interest of the media in our Series One.
After Amazona.de has tested our new headphone amplifiers Phonitor One and Phonitor One d, the online magazine has now devoted their attention to our Monitor Controller SPL Control One.
You can find the complete review (in German) online at Amazona – here we provide a short English summary:
“The Control One is an active monitor controller that provides connection for two stereo sources as well as two pairs of speakers, and is equipped with a headphone amplifier including a basic Phonitor Matrix. Just like the Phonitor One and One d, which Amazona has already reviewed, the Control One features a pure analog circuitry…”
Sound:
“The sound of the SPL Control One is, to begin with, absolutely low in noise and uncolored. It has a neutral and analytical character with a very linear frequency response.”
“Its precise and tight low end gives the lowest frequencies a clean contour with a well-defined transition to the upper low end, making the bass drum and electric bass in particular an equal unit.”
“The complete midrange also seems very well-balanced: The lower mids are reproduced in an exceedingly professional and neutral manner, while the upper mids have a pleasant presence and always remain very gentle, especially at high volumes, so that snares, vocals or lead instruments do not stress the hearing – both through speakers and headphones.”
“The high frequencies are also transmitted in a very filigree manner. They sound open, airy, and beautifully transparent, which is particularly evident, for example, with the silvery shimmer of an acoustic guitar or cymbal hits.”
“In addition to its objective nature, the Control One has a very noble touch, which is not only evident from its well-balanced sonic image, but is especially evident in the differentiated and finely graduated low-frequency reproduction. Spatial components and reverb tails are reproduced exceedingly vividly and in great detail, while the localization of signals in the panorama is very precise.”
Conclusion:
“The SPL Control One is very well suited for smaller studio setups or post-productions where a simple, analog monitor controller is needed. Despite its flat format and basic features, it offers a classy sound that should normally only be expected from more expensive devices.”
