Phonitor 2 Review in German Hifi Statement Online Magazine

Dirk Sommer from German online magazine Hifi Statement reviewed the SPL Phonitor some years back. Now he decided to put our Phonitor 2 to the test. And it’s not without excitement that he asserts:

You should definitely give at least a try to the Phonitor 2, even if you are not in the market for a headphone amplifier, but rather a honest, high-definition, balanced preamp for an unbeatable price.”

“I can’t really think of any other preamp at this price point that is so musical, clear and faithful as the Phonitor 2. And, to top it off, it’s a headphone amplifier, too.”

A lot has happened in the headphone (and corresponding amps) market in recent years. Yet, analog loudspeaker emulation, the Phonitor Matrix, remains one of the SPL Phonitor 2’s unique selling points.

“If you like the sound of loudspeakers, you will certainly appreciate the Matrix whenever you use headphones.”

“Yes, you can even get a credible image of the size of a room, so that even loudspeaker fans can have some real fun!”

And the Phonitor 2 can obviously stand up to competing product in its core specialty.

“The songs played back with the Phonitor 2 exhibited quite some punch and intensity, even at low volumes.” At user-friendly levels, it really spoils you with lots of information and emotion: An indispensable requisite for long listening hours.”

In the end, Dirk is compelled to admit that the Phonitor 2 is a fantastic headphone amplifier:

“As of this day, I don’t know of any other headphone amplifier that is as convincing as the Phonitor 2.”
