At Amazona you can find a review with a lot of sound samples of our Dual-Channel Microphone Preamplifier with 120V technology – SPL Crescendo duo v2. The complete review (in German) is available online – a summary here on our blog.
First impression:
“Unlike the v1 model, which still came in silver, the v2 version comes in an appealing black that will probably seamlessly fit into the look and design of any studio.”
“Manufactured in Germany, the Crescendo duo v2, like all of SPL’s pro audio devices, means development and manufacturing at SPL in Germany.”
“You may like it or not, but the first visual impression is and remains a decisive factor for a product. In this context, the SPL company has once again done everything right. The consistent black design of the microphone preamplifier gives off a classy character, and in addition, the haptic impressions of the knobs and switches are typically Made in Germany in the best sense of the word. Sometimes one would wish that the competition would put a little more emphasis on this kind of presentation.”
Sound:
From the very first signals applied, you can feel the effect of the 120V technology. Indeed, the headroom of the SPL Crescendo duo v2 is significantly higher than what you can get out of comparable products in terms of resistance. Fast, hard peaks are very well attenuated and do not in any way interrupt the normal signal flow, as is often the case with other devices.
“At the same time, the preamp sounds neutral in the best sense, which applies to all possible microphone types as well as to line signals. The sound always remains transparent and provides an excellent basis for further processing of the signals.”
“An outstanding device that provides an all-embracing basis for any form of mono or stereo signal!”
Conclusion:
“I have rarely come across a pre-amp that you can use so safely without falling into any kind of misoperation.”
“With the SPL Crescendo duo v2, the Niederkrüchten-based company has another sonic powerhouse in its portfolio. With excellent specs, huge headroom and a perfectly transparent sound across the entire bandwidth, the preamp offers an excellent base for any processing stage that will follow in the signal path.”
