On the online platform Bonedo you can find a review with sound samples of our patented sound designer SPL Vitalizer Mk3-T. The complete review (in German) is available online. We have summarized some of the highlights for you here on our blog.
“The latest SPL Vitalizer Mk3-T has arrived for a review. There are a lot more changes to the Mk3 than just the new SPL studio design. For example, the internal voltage has been increased to +/- 18 volts.”
Look & Feel:
“The SPL Vitalizer Mk3-T is manufactured as you would expect from SPL. This means that the design is clean and the internal design manufacturing is of high quality, the housing is of high quality and the controls are of high quality without any exception. I always enjoy the additional overhead labeling on the back of the device.”
Sound:
“The Vitalizer circuit actually creates something magical that cannot be easily explained in terms of sound. If you process more complex signals, for example a complete mix or a mix bus, the processor seems to rearrange the signals, to position them more accurately – in other words, somehow tidy them up. The manual for the device explains the unmasking process, and the signal and mix components do indeed seem to separate from each other. And no: this is not voodoo/snake oil, but can be clearly demonstrated by the examples. The (real) reverb plate gains even more depth, clarity and liveliness, the drums as a whole seem closer and at the same time more saturated.”
“Summing with the Vitalizer is a real benefit and above all creates amazing sonic transparency.”
“Alternatives! Very funny! Well, of course, older Vitalizer versions are certainly alternatives, especially as SPL has always delivered excellent built quality. Pure saturation systems and other products as well as multiband dynamics simply have a different functional set-up. So I don’t see a real alternative – especially as the new price for the current version is very reasonable.”
Conclusion:
“It’s no wonder that the Vitalizer circuit is an important part of SPL’s founding myth. The processor is as unique as it is useful, as flexible as it is original. Whether on single signals or mixes, whether subtle or ‘with punch’, the SPL Vitalizer Mk3-T really is a kind of miracle cure in the studio. I rarely say it so clearly: Buy it!”
