The German online platform Amazona published a review including sound samples of our dual-channel microphone preamplifier with discrete technology, SPL Pre One. The complete review (in German) is available online at Amazona. We have summarized and translated some of the highlights for you here on our blog.
“The SPL Pre One is part of the SPL Series One, which includes various components for monitoring and recording.”
“When using more than one product, the devices can be stacked very nicely on top of each other, which creates a visually high-quality impression. The devices are also very easy to move and are therefore also suitable for mobile use.”
“The front of the SPL Pre One has been designed clean and efficient.”
“Two microphones can be connected to Pre One and be amplified simultaneously. The microphone inputs are are equipped with Neutrik XLR sockets and goldplated contacts. Preamplifier 2 of the Pre One also features an ultra low-noise Hi-Z instrument input – so instruments with a Hi-Z signal, such as electric guitars, electric basses or various synthesizers, can also benefit from the sound of the Pre One.”
Sound:
“The basic sound of the preamp is extremely natural and very transparent, with enough headroom to handle extremely loud levels and enough gain to amplify even microphones with low output power.”
“It’s also nice to see that the controls, which seem very subtle at first glance, have a much greater effect in practice than you might think at first. The Flair and Contour switch actually has more effect on the sound than you might think at first glance.”
“Personally, I really liked the Flair circuit, as it provides significantly more definition within the mix, especially in the vocal range.”
Conclusion:
“With the Pre One, SPL has a great-sounding and effectively equipped preamp in its portfolio. The desktop unit is extremely well manufactured, does exactly what it is supposed to do and sounds excellent. Be sure to try it out!”
